Welcome to the Warroad Volunteer Fire Department

Proudly serving the City of Warroad and the surrounding townships the Warroad Volunteer Fire Department is dedicated to protecting life, property, and the environment through emergency response, fire prevention, and community education. Established on the strong foundation of volunteerism and community spirit, our department is staffed by a committed team of trained volunteers who respond to a wide range of emergencies — from structure and wildland fires to vehicle accidents and medical assists.

With deep roots in the Warroad area, we strive not only to respond when called, but to engage with our neighbors, support public safety initiatives, and prepare our community for the unexpected. Whether we're fighting fires or helping with local events, the WFD is here when you need us — day or night.

Fire Department History and Staffing

The Warroad Fire Department, a municipal volunteer department located in Warroad, Minnesota, has served its community with dedication and bravery for over a century. Established in 1904, the department was formed in response to the growing need for organized fire protection in the developing town. In its early days, the department operated with basic equipment—hand-pulled carts, buckets, and a strong sense of community spirit.

As the town grew, so did the fire department. Motorized fire trucks were introduced in the mid-20th century, significantly improving response times and efficiency. Throughout the years, the department has continued to evolve, adopting modern technologies and firefighting techniques to keep pace with the changing demands of fire and emergency services.

The Warroad Fire Department is a volunteer-based organization, composed of dedicated local men and women who undergo rigorous training to ensure the safety of residents and property. In addition to fire suppression, the department also provides rescue services, fire prevention education, and emergency response support.

Today, the Warroad Fire Department remains a vital part of the community, standing as a symbol of courage, teamwork, and service.  The department is staffed by a Fire Chief, an Assistant Fire Chief, five Captains / Lieutenants, and twenty-four fire fighters.  Dedicated volunteers respond to calls for service from one station with a coverage area of approximately 285 square miles.  Some services provided by the department include Fire Prevention and Education, Fire Suppression, Vehicle Rescue and Extrication, Water and Ice Rescue, Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting, and Mutual Aid Response with nearby departments in both Roseau and Lake of the Woods counties.

The dedicated volunteers continue to uphold the departments proud legacy while preparing for the challenges of tomorrow.
